Fires and floods, triggered by climate change, have raged across northern lands in recent years. The role that climate change plays in the erosion of the links between Indigenous communities and their land-based traditions and activities is less known outside these communities. Earth, Fire and Flood will enable six young Northerners to turn a poetry and prose performance about this issue by Shaznay Waugh and Arlyn Charlie into a museum exhibition where Dene Elders and their families describe the painful loss, not only of their homes and fish camps, but of a way of life that has existed for centuries. The exhibit will be replicated online to expand the program’s reach. The Dehcho Heritage Centre will use the exhibition to encourage community discussions and debate.
