Tuktoyaktuk is facing various challenges due to climate change including rising sea-levels, increased coastal erosion, and ground thaw. These challenges threaten the community’s very existence. The Tuktoyaktuk Community Climate Resiliency Project (TCCRP) received $500,000 for their initiative that was designed by the community to act now in order to best prepare for future decisions, including possible relocation. The project will ensure the empowerment of locals to build capacity and knowledge of climate-driven change to stimulate resilience of the people and future generations. The project builds on its already proven success for community-based monitoring by allowing the community to bring the knowledge of climate change to action for the betterment of Tuktoyaktuk.
