Although not always recognized as an essential service, recreation has the power to foster happiness and quality of life and contribute to greater balance in Northern communities. The Tri-Territorial Recreation Training (TRT) project was awarded $600,000 for their plan to empower people and communities to enhance their well-being by strengthening recreation leaders’ capacity to deliver sustainable, flexible and relevant training programs. With a skilled and diverse group of nonprofit, government, and private sector organizations from the recreation field, the TRT project will focus on the development and delivery of a specialized community recreation leadership training program in rural and remote communities across Canada’s three territories.

(Note that this project was a prize recipient prior to 2017, when the current 3-tiered prize model was put in place. Their prize therefore does not correspond to a particular category.)
