Firefighters have a difficult job, and sometimes suffer from mental health and emotional impacts from the work. Yukon First Nations Wildfire was awarded $410,000 for its Resilience Training and Healing Program (RTHP). This project is in response to the challenges with mental health, addiction and suicide among youth and wildland firefighters. RTHP employs a holistic approach to wellness that can be tailored to each participant. It will address trauma through traditional practices, land-based healing, and mentorship, based on a foundation of traditional knowledge. The program will include a financial literacy component, ensuring all participants have bank accounts, understand credit and budgeting, and know how to access financial advice. The key output of this project will be healthy, educated, and skilled future leaders.
