Miinga is a mobile app that aims to provide Nunavummiut with a directory for mental health and emergency resources in the territory through a single digital platform. Miinga, to be developed for and with Nunavummiut, would be the first app of its kind in the territory and the first to specifically address northern challenges around mental health service delivery. Miinga would allow app users to view descriptions of available mental health resources and emergency services and access those services via an integrated call or texting feature. Users would be able to filter available services by location and language (Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French) to identify the most appropriate resource. Widespread use of the app in Nunavut could contribute to improving access to mental health resources in remote communities, and help to reduce incidents of mental health crises, particularly among youth.
