Rooted in a Northern Indigenous worldview, the Indigenous Community Safety Partnership Program (ICSPP) aims to offer a transformative approach to community safety, emergency preparedness, and justice through the revitalization of traditional law. The project received $500,000 to empower Yukon First Nations to address root causes of inter-generational trauma, violence, and vulnerability, through first-of-its-kind Indigenous-led training, certification and mentorship that enables First Nations governments to own, implement and sustain community safety, emergency preparedness, and justice initiatives. By embedding skills and program ownership within First Nations, and decreasing long-term reliance on consultants, this innovative approach to Indigenous-led training and certification promises to enable communities to proactively implement, administer and govern holistic initiatives based on their unique cultures and traditional laws.
